BIOGRAPHY

Mo Kwok is an interdisciplinary artist, educator and political futurist working and living in Hong Kong. She graduated from UChicago and holds a Master of Education from Harvard. Her research-led practice centres around art, technology, and public policy. Her vision is to critique the status quo and make the future better now. Drawing from statistics and stories, her work is unconventionally practical, politically engaged and seeks to reduce inequality, overconsumption, and selfishness. She creates large scale installations that provokes greater social responsibility. Mo studied with artist Theaster Gates, celebrated photographer Richard Rinaldi and Award-winning director Guy Maddin. Gates is renowned internationally for his interdisciplinary blend of social practice, performance. Rinaldi is a portrait photographer and recipient of the Guggenheim fellowship. Maddin directed Emmy Award-winning ballet film Dracula — Pages From A Virgin’s Diary (2002). Aside from being a trained classical pianist, composer, photographer, potter, painter and filmmaker, she is also an educator and entrepreneur. Mo’s studio is open to any students who have an idea. She has taught 7 year-olds how to build computers and retirees in their late 60s how to start an online store. As a result, Mo stays at the forefront of the latest technology and teaching becomes an extension of her practice. In 2016, she was awarded the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Emerging Artist Grant. Her work has been shown internationally including the Harvard Film Archive, Crossings Gallery, the MV Deutschland and the Hong Kong Visual Art Centre
