Nivard Thoes
BIOGRAPHY
Nivard Thoes is a Dutch visual artist based in Hong Kong, where he cultivates a distinctive lens-based practice exploring ephemerality, intimacy, and the fragility of the human condition. His works invite viewers to recognize our interconnectedness with the environment and reconsider our place within it.
A graduate of the Royal Academy of Art in the Netherlands, his fine art practice centers on film photography, photomontage, mixed media, prints, and zines. Alongside his fine art practice, he maintains a parallel career in applied arts as an independent designer and art director, where he has worked with international clients including LVMH and contemporary art gallery Perrotin. He has collaborated on projects with artists and institutions such as the Guangdong Museum of Art, architecture firm OMA, De Appel Arts Centre, UCCA Beijing, and American street artist Barry McGee.
His work has been recognized by leading contemporary photography platforms and publications, with recent features in Der Greif’s Guest Room, selected by curators of Foam Museum and Wereldmuseum Amsterdam, and Fresh Eyes International Talents, curated by leading fine art photography gallery Kahmann Gallery and GUP Magazine – Guide to Unique Photography.
