Navigating Life: Beauty Amidst the Chaos

Nance Lokos, a contemporary abstract artist and designer, will present her first solo exhibition, “Navigating Life: Beauty Amidst the Chaos,” from March 27 to April 8, 2025, at Major Pop Gallery in Sheung Wan. The exhibition will run concurrently with Art Central and Art Basel, marking a significant milestone in Nance’s transition from her career as a commercial visual and product designer in the UK and Hong Kong to a focus on fine art. 

Drawing on her years of experience as a designer, Nance presents a series of original paintings and relief prints that explore the universal human experience. Her work reflects on the tensions between chaos and order, adversity and growth, and the beauty that emerges as we navigate life’s unpredictable paths. “Design taught me structure and precision, but art allows me to embrace imperfection,” Nance explains. “We live in a fast-paced, always-on world, constantly bombarded by the pressures of commercialism and the distractions of modern life. Through these works, I explore how people navigate these challenges and find meaning, resilience, and beauty within the chaos.” 

The exhibition features evocative abstract works characterized by subtle textures, dynamic forms, and contrasting tones. Each piece tells a story of transformation, symbolizing the challenges, breakthroughs, and moments of clarity we encounter in life. Nance harnesses her dual expertise as a designer and artist to harmonize precision with spontaneity, creating works that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.

Nance’s transition from the commercial world to fine art is not a rejection of her design roots but an expansion of her creative horizons. By traveling two paths—the structure of design and the freedom of abstract art—she explores the interplay between order and chaos in a way that resonates with today’s complexities.
