Meeting Of Styles Hong Kong

Meeting Of Styles Hong Kong

Art Festival

Meeting Of Styles Hong Kong

Since the foundation of Int. Meeting Of Styles back in 1997 more than 400 events have been realised worldwide attracting hundreds of thousands spectators and sponsoring thousands of artists throughout the world. MOS brings people together, creates publicity, supports the netting and enables intercultural cross-boarder-cooperation. It is an example how a better world of tomorrow may be possible. It all started mid 90ies in the city of Wiesbaden, Germany with the availability of a huge abandonned area known as the Schlachthof Wiesbaden. Soon it got discovered and established as a Graffiti-Hall-Of-Fame where artists could paint almost legally on thousands of squaremeters surface. Plans of the city-council to tear down the area became public, recultivating the buildings was no option for the city. To resist the plans of destruction the “Int. Wall Street Meeting” was created in order to present the area as a melting-point of urban street-culture. Annually Graffiti-Artists from all over the world gathered in the spirit of colaboration and exchange, so during a weekend in summer the entire area got a new outlook, created by hundreds of artists. Eventhough the event managed to delay the demolition for years, it was not possible to preserve the area. In the years from 1997-2001 the „Int. Wall Street Meeting” welcomed more than 25.000 visitors from all over Germany, Europe and the rest of the world to attend and to enjoy art in the process of creation. Because of its authentical style and its message the Meeting is mentioned as the best Graffiti-Event ever happened. Its worldwide reputation and the enourmous feedback inspired us in 2002 to spread its message which led to the founding of the “Int. Meeting Of Styles”, an international network of graffiti artists and aficionados. Brought together and inspired by their passion for graffiti, MOS aims to create a forum for the international art community to communicate, assemble and exchange ideas, works and skills, but also to support intercultural exchange. In the spirit of cooperation and promotion, since then MOS has launched hundreds events in many countries across Europe, Russia, Asia and the Americas. These events have sponsored thousands of Graffiti-Artists from all over the world and throughout the years have attracted hundreds of thousands spectators, providing a focal point for urban street culture and graffiti art. The “Meeting Of Styles” as its name says, is a meeting of styles, created to support the netting of the international art-community. It is not meant to be a forum only for classical and traditonal Graffiti-Artists and -Writers, but a podium to present all different types of urban art! This is why we are open for all types and styles. The “Int. Meeting Of Styles”-Organisation is a non-profit-organisation formed by dedicated and passionate Artists and Art-Lovers who put a lot of work and engagement into the MOS. We as an organisation feel responsibility to work for unification and to resist a system that takes away freedom for order, control and profit. Politics affect us each and every day, locally and globally. Your consumption has a direct impact to the destruction and exploitation of our environment and the manipulation and enslavement of humanity. MOS is our contribution to raise consciousness. The key to freedom is knowledge and education.

Oi!

Oi!

Art Organisation, Art Gallery

Oi!

Oi! is an art space located in the North Point community which is popular among the public. Its name links the ideas behind it with its location: Oi! sounds similar to the address in Cantonese and conveys a call for people's attention while providing a platform where they can realise their dreams in art. Oi! includes a historic building complex opened in 1908. It was a yacht club clubhouse that was located on the waterfront in North Point at the time. Following land reclamation work in the 1930s, the buildings were initially converted into staff quarters for the Government Supplies Department and later into a storage facility for the Antiquities and Monuments Office. After it was allocated to the Art Promotion Office for revitalisation and restoration, the red-bricked Grade II historic building complex with tile roof was renamed as Oi!, which was opened to the public in 2013. In order to provide more space to inspire and increase imagination, Oi! has further expanded in 2022, in which an adjacent outdoor space has been integrated with the original premises. The new extension provides both outdoor and indoor spaces to host a wide variety of art exhibitions and community-engaged activities that encouraging the public to enjoy the environment and to ignite creative ideas.

Para Site

Para Site is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary art centre and one of the oldest and most active independent art institutions in Asia. It produces exhibitions, publications, discursive, and educational projects aimed at forging a critical understanding of local and international phenomena in art and society. Founded in early 1996 as an artist run space, Para Site was Hong Kong’s first exhibition-making institution of contemporary art and a crucial self-organised structure within the city’s civil society, during the uncertain period preceding its handover to Mainland China. Throughout the years, Para Site has grown into a contemporary art centre, engaged in a wide array of activities and collaborations with other art institutions, museums, and academic structures in Hong Kong and the international landscape. In early 2015, Para Site moved to greatly increased premises, in North Point/Quarry Bay. Throughout its history, Para Site’s activities have included a range of different formats, among which P/S magazine (1997–2006), a bilingual publication, which was Hong Kong’s first visual arts magazine and a central platform for the development of art writing and of a discursive scene in the city and the Curatorial Training Programme (2007–2010). Since 2012, Para Site has been running an International Art Residency Programme and has been organizing an annual international conference. This is accompanied, starting from 2015, by a new educational format aimed at training young curators and other art professionals. Para Site’s activities are made possible by the generous support of its patrons, and grants from foundations and the Government of the HKSAR.
